Uncovering the secrets of Biology: a lifelong desire
Let us introduce you to Valeria Conte, a 22-year old student who has been intrigued by biology since her high school years. Her desire to unveil the mysteries of the natural world, drove her to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Biology, while her passion for human pathology led her to continue her studies with a Master's degree in Molecular Biotechnology at Vanvitelli University. Valeria is among our STEM scholarship winners and we can't wait to see where her curiosity will bring her.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m Valeria, I’m 22 years old and I’m attending the first year of the Master’s degree in Molecular Biotechnology at the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Unisannio university in Benevento. I’ve always been fascinated by Life, in all its forms. During high-school, I felt the urge to further explore the world of Biology. From the very beginning, I understood that the university path I had chosen was the right one as I considered the hours spent studying not as a duty, but as a gift I was making to myself.
What’s your degree all about?
The degree in Molecular Biotechnology aims to provide students with a deep knowledge of bio-technologies. In particular, it explores the industrial processes underlying the production of chemicals at a large scale. These chemicals are essential to the development of products we need on a daily basis, such as food.
Why have you chosen this path?
After completing my Bachelor’s degree in Biology, I wanted to learn more about human physiology and pathology, as well as explore the dynamics of the industrial procedures. The degree in Molecular Biotechnology perfectly met my needs.
What do you love the most about your degree program?
The multicultural environment. As classes are held in English, I also have foreign classmates. I believe that the best way to enrich yourself is by embracing cultural diversity.
What are your future goals?
First of all, I would like to graduate with a high mark as quickly as possible. Then, I would love to attend a Master’s degree abroad. Career wise, my dream is to work in the pharmaceutical industry.
