Biomedical omics: bridging the gap between macro and micro
Scholarship winner Andrea Marchetto has always been fascinated by the intricate mechanisms of the human body. And that's why, after completing a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnologies, he has decided to pursue a Master's program in Biomedical Omics at the University of Milan. Through this innovative course, he is gaining a comprehensive understanding of living systems and learning the interconnection between macro and micro. Take a closer look at Andrea's cutting-edge studies in our interview.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m Andrea, I’m 23 years old, and I live near Turin. I have a great passion for the mountains, ecology, cooking, and especially for the complex and extraordinary mechanisms of the human body. For this reason, I’ve decided to apply to the Master’s degree in Biomedical Omics at La Statale in Milan. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnologies from the University of Turin.
What's your degree all about?
The goal of Biomedical Omics is to lead us to the world of precision medicine. Omics Sciences investigate living systems from different perspectives simultaneously, such as genome, proteome and so on. In this course, we learn how to bridge the gap between macro and micro. Substantially, when we analyse large samples of data and people, we look for answers which are effective for a specific patient. And we achieve this goal by using cutting-edge technologies, such as Al.
Why have you chosen this path?
Because I believe that innovation is a key ingredient to creating a fulfilling university experience. Biomedical Omics is, first of all, a new degree: in fact, this is the first edition. Plus, it explores extremely innovative topics.
What do you love the most about your degree?
For sure the interaction with professors and scientific researchers. This is extremely inspiring as we have the chance to truly grasp the passion and get to know both the difficulties and personal stories of the people that engage with research. In this way, we can fully understand how are future job will be like.
What are your future goals?
I would like to complete a PhD and carry out a clinical research project on my own. I don’t know yet what will happen next. However, I’ll for sure engage with something that involves both laboratory activity and the collaboration with experts in different fields.
