Cortina Storie di Sport – Road To 2026: A Journey Through Olympic Memory
Cortina d’Ampezzo, the jewel of the Dolomites and renowned stage for many winter sports disciplines, is preparing to host the 2026 Winter Olympic Games with the opening of a new exhibition space. On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, the pop-up exhibition “Cortina Storie di Sport – Road to 2026” was officially inaugurated at the former Galleria Farsetti in Galleria Nuovo Centro 18. This exhibition celebrates Cortina’s Olympic history, as the town, 70 years after hosting the first edition in 1956, will once again take center stage in the global sporting event.

Promoted by the Municipality of Cortina and created in collaboration with the local section of the Associazione Nazionale Atleti Olimpici e Azzurri d’Italia, as well as with the support of the partners Studio GrisDainese, Studio Visuale, and Museo M9, the initiative aims to guide citizens and visitors through an immersive journey that bridges past and present. Through iconic objects and multimedia environments, visitors will have the opportunity to relive the stories of legendary athletes, record-breaking achievements, and visionary minds who made Cortina a stronghold for bobsleigh, skiing, curling, and Paralympic disciplines: sports that will be contested in the same mountains in 2026.
A journey through snow, ice, and adrenaline, featuring memorabilia, archival images, and historical testimonies that highlight the deep connection between the popular Alpine resort and sport, as well as the Olympics. Among the archives that contributed to the collection of historical materials for the exhibition is the Historical Archive of the Dompé Foundation.

"Our history is deeply connected to Cortina d'Ampezzo. As Dompé Foundation, we are happy to have contributed to this exhibition by providing materials from our Historical Archive. In particular, we supplied documents, films, and historical photographs for the exhibition space dedicated to bobsleigh. My father, Franco, was a bobsledder; he held membership number one with the Bob Club Cortina. In 1950, he competed with the Italian national team at the World Championships in Cortina. Two years later, at the age of 41, he participated in the 1952 Oslo Olympics as a reserve for the Italian Bobsleigh Team. Then, there is the company’s commitment: in 1956, Dompé farmaceutici sponsored the Cortina Olympics, supplying medicines and providing first aid services for athletes and Olympic delegations. Today, it is truly moving to see that Cortina, alongside Milan, is once again ready to welcome the Olympic Games with the opening of this beautiful exhibition, which honors the past through an innovative narrative. It is a meaningful moment for the region."
- Sergio Dompé, President of Dompé Foundation

The invitation is open to all: visiting the exhibition – available until April 25, 2025 – means immersing yourself in a story of sport, passion, and success that connects the past and the future. Cortina is ready to write a new chapter in its Olympic history and inspire new generations of athletes and winter sports enthusiasts.
